Baker’s Bend Viewpoint at Nonpareil Estate

Baker’s Bend Viewpoint at Nonpareil Estate

📍 A picturesque destination within our plantation landscape

Baker’s Bend — also known as the Nagrak Bend — is a dramatic horseshoe-shaped viewpoint perched at the 23rd curve of a winding 33-bend mountain road within the Nonpareil Estate, near Belihuloya in Sri Lanka. Rising approximately 1,530 meters (5,000 feet) above sea level, it stands as a striking landmark along the steep ascent to the Nagrak Holiday Bungalow.

Renowned as one of the most captivating viewpoints in Sri Lanka’s hill country, the bend curves gracefully like a horse’s shoe, framing a breathtaking panorama. During the British colonial era, the estate was managed by William Baker, and local lore tells that the bend earned its name after his horse tragically slipped and fell here, leaving Baker seriously injured.

From this lofty vantage point, sweeping vistas unfold in every direction. To the left, on a clear day, the majestic ranges of Balathuduwa, Gommolikanda, and Adarakanda rise in layered splendor. To the right, the shimmering waters of Samanala Wewa and Udawalawa Reservoir glisten in the distance, completing a scene of remarkable natural beauty.
